Yahoo Discussion groups

Introduction:

It has become quite common, especially nowadays with the faster Internet connections, to keep contact with other people having the same interests as we. Even for people with hip related problems there are specialized discussion groups. A selection of groups under the American Yahoo services follow below.

The participants are mainly patients and their loved ones, but occasionally even some orthopaedic surgeons participate in discussions.

For those under you that don’t manage English it will be harder to find a suitable group, one Swedish group follows below, but otherwise you can subscribe to any of the other groups named below.

The ”Nordenshippies” group: (Swedish / English)

This is our very own Swedish discussion group for hip patients in Scandinavia, looking for help. The Group was started 01-01-2007 in the first place for all those that speak and write Swedish, but it is allowed to use English in the cases where foreign patients are looking for help. Our group has the ”ytersättningsprotesen”, ”Hip Resurfacing”, ”Birmingham Hip Resurfacing” or ”BHR” in the centrum, but even others that have or will receive another type of prosthesis are welcome!

Everything having to do with problems on: pains, therapy, medicines, protheses, information on surgeons and hospitals, operation methods, x-ray images, costs for surgery and hospitalization and more is discussed.

This ”support group” is for the patients that are on the eve of a hip operation or those that have already had one. The common subject in this group is ”Birmingham Hip Resurfacing”, ”BHR” or ”ytersättningsprotesen” and the exchange of experiences that surround this implant. Everything having to do with problems on: pains, therapy, medicines, protheses, information on surgeons and hospitals, operation methods, x-ray images, costs for surgery and hospitalization and more is discussed.

This group is thought to give support to all persons that consider a BHR operation in India. Even persons that already received their operations do participate. The reports from patients that have been helped in India with a BHR prosthesis are very positive and furthermore are the costs for the operation in India very low.

This group concentrates on the people with a particular hip condition that is called ”FAI” or ”Femoralacetabular Impingement”. In a hip joint with FAI is the friction too high, whereby a particular form of bone to bone contact can occur between the acetabulum in the pelvis and the femoral head on the leg, with it’s own problems and pains. It is not uncommon that patients with FAI later become candidates for Hip Resurfacing.
