Hip problems? Whatever the situation may be that you are in, you are welcome to contact me for assistance!
It is important to remember that an ideal candidate for hip resurfacing (with a BHR for example) is a person that comes in good time and before the joint is damaged too much. Is your hip on the other hand extremly bad then it is still worth contacting me since you may in that case pass as candidate for a so-called BMHR prosthesis in stead. After the BHR does a BMHR offer the highest chance to return to a previous demanding and active lifestyle that includes sports.

För en sådan ”konsultation” via e-post behöver jag:

lite basuppgifter såsom finns i filen ”Uppgifter.doc”, se länken längre ner.
kopior på dina röntgenbilder på höften som helst inte ska vara äldre än 6 månader.
röntgenbilderna ska inkludera en komplett bäckenbild, helst tagen stående, men har den tagits liggande så tar vi den i alla fall, och sedan gärna en bild på din dåliga led i sig.

Obs: För att få dina röntgenbilder behöver du bara ringa röntgenavdelningen på sjukhuset där du var sist, CD-skivan brukar skickas till dig nästan omgående och brukar kosta en hundralapp ungefär.
Behöver du hjälp med bilderna på CD-skivan så är det bara att kontakta mig och hjälper jag dig vidare.

Det förvånar många, men allt det här görs kostnadsfritt och utan förbindelser. Svaren brukar dessutom rulla in inom allt mellan några timmar och en dag högst. Inte sällan används den här konsultationsmöjligheten av personer som redan bokade en höftoperation i Sverige med en traditionell höftprotes och började misstänka att det måste finnas något bättre.

Med svaren från en eller flera riktiga ytersättningspecialister i handen har du fått grundläggande informationen att fundera över och sedan bestämma dig om en eventuell operation utomlands med denna metod.
Det kan vara bra att delta i Nordenshippies eller annan supportgrupp för att höra hur andra har gjort i samma situation; mer information om grupperna finns på framsidan under huvudet ”Forum”.

    I am in need of left hip resurfacing. I was referred by an ex patient of yours, Patricia Walter.

    I am in the USA, and would like some info on how a consult works / pricing / and the device he uses – is it metal on metal or cross-linked polyurethene ??

    Hi. I had my right hip resurfaced with the Birmingham product by Dr De Smet . I think around 17 years ago. The surgery has been a great success. Can you tell me the year i had the procedure and what is the longevity of the BHR. They say in Canada they do not last.

    Hi, I am an active 58 year old triathlete with hip pain, labral tear, early arthritis. Currently debating resurfacing vs replacement in the next year. I would like to continue my active lifestyle doing triathlon, snowboarding and riding horses. I would consider traveling for surgery

    Good afternoon, I am Mar Traspaderne. I was on vacation in Brazil and had an accident resulting in a femoral neck fracture, which was treated surgically with the placement of three screws to avoid a prosthesis, 30 hours after the injury . I am not allowed to fly for now, but I would like to have a second opinion as well as follow-up care once I am able to return to Europe. Additionally, I would like to know what can be done to reduce the chances of post-injury necrosis. Would it be possible to schedule an online consultation by sending images ?

    Hello. I need to set up a consultation with Dr. DeSmet. I have Current x-ray and MRI. I have stage four OA. I am allergic to nickel and Titanium. I live in USA. In actually was told by Dr. Pritchett that I am not a candidate for hip resurfacing due to my bones not being dense enough And he told me to get a hold of you and see if there’s any thing you can do for me.

    Hello
    I had sent some xrays to Dr. De Smet approximatley , 12 yrs ago; Dr De Smet seemed to think I was a candidate for resurfacing;
    I had my left hip resurfaced about 11-12 years ago; In the USA . This was by Dr. Brant Harradine = Kaiser Hospital; California.
    I’m 70 yr old male of slight build 5’8″ 155lbs. Reasonably good shape,active.
    Recently I’ve started having some issues with my left hip = groin area = bulging type feeling?
    I believe the prosthesis used was the BHR.
    I have an appointment with PMR, Dr. soon and am trying to figure a course of action.
    Questions as to proceed , IE: type of ortho Dr. to see ; type xrays needed,
    Note: I no longer live in the California = Santa Clara area; I’m having difficulty reaching out to Dr. Harradine.
    I’m trying not to stress out to much at the moment.

    Dr. Se Smet.
    My name is James Peterson, I am 76 years of age, in good health and until recently, about 4 or 5 months ago , had been an active hiker, walker and was doing a HIT exercise progrem several times a week. I am a U S citizen but presentlly live with my wife Laurie in Tuscany Italy. I have permanent residence stauts here in Italy. My wife and I still manage our winery operation in Napa Ca and I have a Law practice in Charleston West Virginia.
    Early October of this year I consulted with Dr. Thomas Gross at Midland Orthopedics in Columbia South Carolina concerning my left hip problem, which was prgressivley getting worse. Dr. Gross had performed reserfacing prcedures on one of my partners a couple of years ago which went well.
    Dr Gross had me submit to him a medical questionaire along with Pelvic Photos , axial photos of my left hip and a DEXA scan. Upon review he indicated that I was a candidate for a resrufacoing procedure, but due to my height at 5′ 6″ he was not sure that he had the proper size prosthetics to do the procedure. I do not remember the size he was referring to , but stated he has a size that may work burt once he opened my hip up , it is possiblebe that a smaller size would be indicated. He said I could call back in 3 months to see if things had changed in terms of prcurring the poroer size devices but thought that I might not want to wait that long.
    He then suggested that I specificcally contact you in Belgium to see if you could do the procedure at your facility in Sint Martens Latem, because he knew that you would be able to obtain the proper size prosthetics in
    Belgium to perform the procedure. Dr. Gross spoke highly of you and indicated I should visit your web site and learn more about you , your practice and faciltiy. I did so today and feel confident that I would be in good hands with you regarding this type of procedure, assuming you would concur with Dr, Gross on his diagnosis.

    Hi, I’m a 63 year old active female living in Ireland. I’m having problems with my right hip and am investigating the possibility of coc hip resurfacing. Soon I will have the results of a DEXA scan as well as an MRI. What are my next steps?
